Aux Champs Elysées

Aux Champs Elysées has been a perennial favourite with my students. They love to sing along. They can when the lyrics are right there in front of them and Joe Dassin sings so clearly. It’s a great way to learn a language naturally.

Heureux 1er mai

It’s good to have a video explaining 1er mai. La fête du travail is very special and different .To see all that muguet is surprising and makes you wonder. When you understand it is a lovely way to celebrate then you appreciate more what the French culture is doing for its people. Like Labour Day in Australia it is a public holiday.

attaques parisEncore? Courage.

Visite guidée d’Aix-en-Provence

Last term the year 10s learnt about Bretagne because it happened to tie in with the Astérix film we were seeing at the French film festival. This term we are going to look at Provence and this is a good visite guidée. They will not understand it all but  the video will help them make associations with visual input and language. They will also learn to pronounce Aix-en -Provence  because English speakers are dumbfounded at times by this word.

Merci Paris

One of the things students find irrestistible in learning French is finding out how exquisite the patisserie is. This video gives a good insight into the care, the level of expertise and the inspirational creations which come from a patissier in Paris. Don’t watch this if you are hungry!

12 common French gestures

Géraldine Lepère understands what it is like to be in another culture with a different language and find out that what you think are normal , ordinary gestures are not the same from one culture to another. In this video she explains some French gestures and what they mean. Her information is clear and engaging. She has a site Comme une Française, based in Grenoble which supports learning of French and there are free resources which you can obtain. She also has a YouTube channel and a big following.
